What are kidneys?

They are Twin organs that perform vital life maintaining functions.

KIDNEYS

  • Clean waste materials and excrete excess fluid from the blood
  • Filter the blood, retaining essential compounds, excreting the others
  • Help regulate blood pressure and red blood cell count
  • Are concerned with insulin metabolism and hence, indirectly, diabetic control.

What are the diseases of the kidneys?

  • Congenital (Inborn) - Polycystic Kidney Disease
  • Infective - Pyelonephritis
  • Trauma - injury
  • Neoplastic - cancer
  • Other - glomerulonephritis
Diseases, like, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. can affect the kidneys.
