How long does peritoneal dialysis last?
PD has to be carried out 3-5 times per day, every day, and seven days a week, 365 days of the year.
This treatment has to be carried out life long, or until a successful transplant.
What is a kidney transplant?
It is an operation in which a person, whose kidneys have failed permanently, receives a new kidney from a donor, to take over the function of the failed kidneys.
Are there different types of kidney transplants?
Yes, there are two types - those coming from live donors and those coming from donors who have died. (cadaver donors)
What is a living related donor program?
(LRD TRANSPLANTATION)
According to the Human Organ Transplant Act, enacted in 1995 by the Indian Parliament, your mother, father, brother, sister, son or daughter is considered as living related donors. The Act also permits you to receive a kidney from your spouse (wife or husband).
Your grandfather, grandmother, uncle, aunt, cousin, in- laws, etc. are, by definition under the Act, UNRELATED DONORS
